Torque Calculator for Bolts

1. What is a Bolt Torque Calculator?

Definition: This calculator computes torque or clamping force for mild-steel bolts (1/4" to 1") based on diameter, K value, and lubricant.

Purpose: It ensures proper bolt fastening for safety and structural integrity in construction and engineering.

2. How Does the Calculator Work?

The calculator uses the formula:

\[ T = K \times D \times F \]

Where:

  • \( T \) — Torque (N·m or lbf·ft)
  • \( K \) — Torque coefficient (adjusted by lubricant)
  • \( D \) — Bolt diameter (m or ft)
  • \( F \) — Clamping force (N or lbf)

Explanation: Select K (0.16–0.30 or custom), lubricant (0–52.5% reduction or custom), and input either clamping force or torque. K is reduced by lubricant percentage.

3. Importance of Bolt Torque

Details: Correct torque prevents bolt failure, ensures joint stability, and meets safety standards for mild-steel bolts.

4. Using the Calculator

Tips: Enter diameter (mm or in), choose K (e.g., Normal Dry = 0.20) and lubricant (e.g., Graphite = 52.5%), then provide clamping force (N or lbf) or torque (N·m or lbf·ft).
