Duct Size Area Calculator

Duct Size to Area Calculator

The duct area can be calculated using the following formulas:

Cross-Sectional Area for Different Duct Types:

  • Flat Oval Duct: \( \text{Area} = 2(W + \pi r) \times L \), where \( r = \frac{H}{2} \)
  • Rectangular Duct: \( \text{Area} = (W \times H) \)
  • Rectangular Duct End Cap: \( \text{Area} = W \times H \)
  • Rectangular Elbow: \( \text{Area} = (W + H) \times 2 \times \text{Arc Length} \), where \( \text{Arc Length} = \frac{\theta}{360} \times 2 \pi R \)
  • Rectangular Duct Reducer: \( \text{Area} = (W + H + w + h) \times L \)
  • Rectangular Duct Offset: \( \text{Area} = 2(W + H) \times (L1 + L2) \)
  • Rectangular Duct Transition: \( \text{Area} = (W + H + \pi r) \times L \), where \( r = \frac{D}{2} \)
  • Rectangular Duct Equal Tee: \( \text{Area} = 2(W1 + H1)L1 + 2(W2 + H2)L2 + 2(W3 + H3)L3 \)
  • Rectangular Duct Reducing Tee: \( \text{Area} = 2(W1 + H1)L1 + 2(W2 + H2)L2 + 2(W3 + H3)L3 \)

Parameters:

- \( W \): Width of the duct (Major Axis for Flat Oval Duct).
- \( H \): Height of the duct (Minor Axis for Flat Oval Duct).
- \( L \): Length of the duct.
- \( r \): Radius (for Flat Oval Duct and Elbow).
- \( \theta \): Angle of the elbow (in degrees).
- \( w, h \): Smaller width and height for the reducer.

Example Calculation

For a Flat Oval Duct with Major Axis (W) = 24 inches, Minor Axis (H) = 12 inches, Length (L) = 5 feet:
1. Duct Area: \( \text{Area} = 2\left(\frac{24}{12} + \pi \times \frac{\frac{12}{12}}{2}\right) \times 5 \approx 47.85 \, \text{sq ft} \)
