GMAWS Calculator

How to Calculate GMAWS

The GMAWS assesses alcohol withdrawal severity through five parameters.

FORMULA

The GMAWS score is calculated by summing the scores from the five parameters.

\( \begin{aligned} \text{GMAWS Score} = &\ \text{Tremor} + \text{Sweating} + \text{Hallucinations} \\ &+ \text{Orientation} + \text{Agitation} \end{aligned} \)

Notes:

Each parameter is scored from 0 to 2 based on severity.

Enter the scores for each parameter and calculate the result.

Note: Ensure all fields are selected.

Using the GMAWS Calculator

This calculator helps assess alcohol withdrawal severity and guide management.

Select the appropriate score for each of the five parameters. The calculator sums the scores and provides recommended medication and reassessment interval.

Example 1: Tremor 0, Sweating 0, Hallucinations 1, Orientation 1, Agitation 0.

  1. Tremor: 0
  2. Sweating: 0
  3. Hallucinations: 1
  4. Orientation: 1
  5. Agitation: 0
  6. Score: 2
  7. Medication: Diazepam 10 mg PO/IV ×1 Alt: Lorazepam 2 mg
  8. Interval: Reassess in 2 hours

Example 2: Tremor 2, Sweating 2, Hallucinations 2, Orientation 2, Agitation 2.

  1. Tremor: 2
  2. Sweating: 2
  3. Hallucinations: 2
  4. Orientation: 2
  5. Agitation: 2
  6. Score: 10
  7. Medication: Diazepam 20 mg PO/IV ×1 Alt: Lorazepam 4 mg
  8. Interval: Reassess in 1 hour
