Fuel Oil Furnace CFM Calculator

How to Calculate Furnace CFM for Fuel Oil

To calculate the CFM for a fuel oil furnace, use the following formula:

CFM = ((Btu/gal oil) × (Nozzle size GPH) × (combustion/thermal efficiency)) / (1.08 × ΔT)

Where:

  • CFM: Cubic Feet per Minute (airflow required)
  • Btu/gal oil: British Thermal Units per Gallon of oil
  • Nozzle size GPH: Nozzle size in Gallons per Hour
  • combustion/thermal efficiency: Efficiency of the combustion process
  • ΔT: Temperature rise across the heat exchanger in °F
  • 1.08: A constant that includes the specific heat of air and the density of air at standard conditions

Use the form above to input the values, and the calculator will provide the required CFM.
